These homes *start* in the high 600-thousands. And you get a lovely view of these industrial power lines — literally in your backyard!
And yes, these homes are built within 10 feet of each other.

Awww yiss, unknown levels of electromagnetic radiation all for the low low variable mortgage rate of 13.9%

I can’t tell from the image, are they single-family or are the garages attached? And what city are you in?
They're building $$$ houses near me next to a mushroom farm. The smell would kill you after six weeks.

That’s the way their doing here, too. Tall homes on zero lot lines with minimal yards unless you go far out into the rural areas. Your only other option is to buy two lots and build your own. And everyone gets a pine fence, gratis, so we can all live in Dilbert cubicles.
Viva la progress!

Where is this housing market?
![]() 01/11/2016 at 13:30 |

North of Seattle

Everytime I fly I’m reminded that anyone paying $200k for a lot that is 1/8th of an acre is insane. Urban land prices are the biggest scam going.
![]() 01/11/2016 at 13:33 |

don't those power lines cause cancer, or something?
![]() 01/11/2016 at 13:34 |

We are in a lovely bubble down on SW Florida right now too. People who bought their home not even a year ago are reselling and making around $100k for just living in it.
Will be funny when it bursts big time in the next few years. They recently broke ground on a bunch of new developments and plan on building 10k more homes within 5 years. Then, the older houses will become worthless.

Powerlines aren’t that big of a deal, i live relatively close to them (further from the substation). My housing development was built in the early 70's there’s never been any complaints of any health issues related to them.
They’re not pretty though lol.
sucks on how on top of each other they are and how much they cost.
Want to see what 600k gets you in a wonderful city in Michigan? Here’s what that gets in Michigan.

you might be crying when you click that link, just warning.

That’s easily an 800k house here.
![]() 01/11/2016 at 13:42 |

It’s about the same in the Midwest.
I get a kick out of the billboards exclaiming “FROM THE LOW $590s”.
There is nothing “low” about $590,000!

no cancer...just something

My 900 sq. ft. house was $35,000. It came with a 1 car garage.

This is about an hour northeast of Seattle.
They’re single family homes with attached garage.

Right and it’s in really small print too!
*whispers* from the high
*screams* SIX HUNDRED THOUSANDS!!!
So you drive by and see 600 and think 600, not 695, which these probably are.

You live in SoCal?...wait, no, you have trees and greenery...it can’t be.

I’m gonna go home and pet my 2200 sq-ft house with 2-1/2 car garage that I bought for $190k.
Then I’m going to kick it for needing so much work and money put into it.
Then I’m going to pet it again, because it’s still a pretty good house and it’s kinda cool looking.
Then I’m going to try not to think about all the money I’ve spent fixing it.
Then I’m going to try not to think about all the money I still have to spend on the house to make it right.
Then I’m going to try not to think about all the cool cars I could’ve bought with all that money.
Then, hopefully, one or both of my daughters will do something really cute, and remind me why I’m spending all this damn money fixing a house.

And those are the ones I will buy!

My sister lives out there, I briefly lived out there too and yeah, it’s ridiculous. I used to love the idea of Seattle but the reality of Seattle is a little lackluster. Weather sucks 6 months out of the year, terrible city to commute in and high cost of living.
I do miss not having state income taxes though.

Seems like we’ve learned absolutely nothing from the previous bubble. I paid 250k for 3500 Sq ft.

you should just buy this

I’m gonna guess this house was built in the past 10-15 years as well?

lolz
It’ll be my summer home when I win powerball
I love doing this to people though. When they’re in a crazy expensive housing market I send a listing of a comparable home from my market just to mess with them.
My house cost less than a third of the cost of the one I linked to and it’s a 4 bed 2 bath 2000+ square foot house lol
![]() 01/11/2016 at 15:56 |

This went for 2.2 lmao
![]() 01/11/2016 at 15:58 |

Where?
![]() 01/11/2016 at 16:03 |

That costs 5x what my house did and we got 4 acres and a 2 car garage.

This is just outside of Toronto in Etobicoke. My mistake though, it’s not sold and they recently lowered the price to 1.6 lol.

but does your house have a 7 car garage?
![]() 01/11/2016 at 16:11 |

no but I don’t have 10 million to drop either lol

Yes you do. Don’t lie.
![]() 01/11/2016 at 16:38 |

I said I didn’t have 10 million to drop
That’s because it’s all in toilet paper holdings.
The guys at the water treatment plant have a love/hate relationship with me.

Traffic is intolerable. I don’t know how anyone does it. It takes 45 minutes to drive from Capitol Hill to Magnolia these days.

meanwhile my house was $500K when we bought it and it’s 2280sqft, on a 10K sqft lot.
Yay education hill.
literally anywhere else you can get double the home\land for the money.

I drive past a development like that on my way to Chicago. Townhouses and McMansions backing up to an interstate and a huge gigantic power station. Fuck that.

This is up in west Clearview (or North Creek)... I mean, have you been to Clearview? Closer to HWY 9 and the bikini batista strip than to downtown Mill Creek. And swampy. The summer skies are dense with deerflies.
![]() 01/12/2016 at 01:12 |

yeah, up there idk how it's justified....

2 or 3 years ago, you could still get a new plat home on Novelty Hill for 700k... I don’t even want to know what they are now.

oh we know... reason we bought where we did is because Redmond ridge is all cookie cutter. we needed the space, and our 80's home did just that!

Redmond Ridge is terrifying. EVERYTHING IS THE SAME

Jeez. That’s about 99 years and 10 mos. Too new for me. I love the old house I live in.

See these two houses. They’re for sale for 1.5 million. (One has sold) Notice anything funny though?
That’s 395 in your front yard. One of the most heavily trafficked roads in the DC Area. Hell, you can even see the Air Force memorial from this view. There’s also literally no backyard. Mhmmmm, the smell of fumes.
8am and that road is literally filled with cars. To the brim.
![]() 01/12/2016 at 22:02 |

Brutal. Those split garages are pretty cool though!
I was working at a new plat, close to HWY 92, literally separated by a six foot fence. First big rig that drove by, the entire house shook and screamed. There is large logging operation just up that highway. All yours for 400k.
![]() 01/12/2016 at 22:16 |

They're super nice houses on the inside also. Top of the line everything. It's just that depressing ass view and the pollutants that are making their way in as we speak.

Bainbridge Island is much the same. You spend $700+ for a house (much like my father did), and then you get zero property, small square footage, and typically not the greatest view.
My father’s first house on Bainbridge was adjacent to the second busiest road on the entire island. $675,000 or so. Madness!
